My Journey of Discovery

“Addressing the whole person-body, mind, and spirit was exactly what resonated with me. I knew I found my calling.”

Dr. Calvanese of Wimberley Valley Naturopathic

At a young age, I was fascinated by human behavior and wanted to become a psychologist. At 22 years old, I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology but left with a feeling of dissatisfaction. I had a sense that there was another approach to healing, but I couldn’t Google it in 1982! Synchronistically I ended up in an 8-week holistic health course. I took the course and learned about the field of naturopathic medicine.

The light bulb moment occurred when I learned that the Naturopathic profession offered new possibilities for more profound and holistic healing. I knew I had found my calling. Addressing the whole person-body, mind, and spirit was fundamental to naturopathy’s principles and practice and was exactly what resonated with me.

Transformative Remedies

Before setting off to Naturopathic graduate school, I was given a constitutional homeopathic remedy by a chiropractor. The remedies were transformative for me. Their effects catalyzed a deeper sense of well-being and improved my physical health. I've used Homeopathy as my primary therapeutic tool throughout my years of practice because I continually witnessed deep healing on all levels of being with my patients. Combining Homeopathy with Coaching is especially powerful. I learned way more than Naturopathic medicine in my 4 years of training. I explored Eastern Spiritual thought, meditation, Course in Miracles, and many other approaches for deepening one’s understanding and practice of who we are as spiritual beings. Like all of us, each segment of my life has brought a mix of joy and sorrow, fulfillment and challenges. In my late 30’s after having a child and divorce, I wanted to explore why I was so unhappy in my marriage that I needed to break up our family.

The Ontology of Being

Through intense self inquiry work, I experienced a shift in identity and realized who I was. Pure love and indescribable essence at its source, connected to all life. It’s hard to describe but you know it when you experience it. Now I have more practical ways of pointing to it within all of us. Shortly after that awakening experience, I got pregnant with twins at 41 and went through a seven-year period of extreme hardship and stress, in addition to the blessing my two daughters. During this time of difficulty, some of the greatest gifts arose for personal growth and a more profound practice of self-realization. Out of much confusion, duress, hopelessness, and exhaustion, I desperately sought peace and clarity. I was exposed to an emerging approach called Ontological Design and Language of Being. Being coached and later trained in the work, I gained a new view and a grounding in awakening. This allowed me to live my life more effectively with emotional peace and mental clarity. The ontological work enabled me to see extraordinary possibilities for my life and situation. As I used this new understanding in my life and with my children, I developed it as a tool in my practice. I've observed these tools consistently generating transformation in the patients with whom I work. After 36 years of practicing as a Naturopath and Homeopath, my approach is unique because it synthesizes all the personal and spiritual work I've engaged in myself and used in my practice. I now have understanding and distinctions about the territory of sudden and gradual awakenings.  I am honored and privileged to assist you on your journey to awakening and grounding that awakening in your life and purpose. I believe awakening to who we are is at the core of a new society where everyone cares about one another and the planet.

I have had nothing but great experiences with Marianne Calvanese at Austin Naturopathic. Because she is an incredibly patient, generous listener, she is able to be such a helpful doctor. Chronic Adult Acne

I had chronic adult acne that pretty much covered my face for several years. I did two rounds of Accutane, and both times the acne came back. Dr. Calvanese is the only person who was able to target the cause and get rid of it. My overall health has improved drastically, and I look forward to my visits with her. She is very empathetic and knowledgeable. Can't recommend her enough.
